Studlok (“Studlok,” “we,” “us”) is built around a simple idea: it should lock distracting apps on your device, and nothing about how you use those apps is any of our business. Studlok also offers optional, sign-in-based features for generating quizzes from your own course materials — this policy explains, plainly, what that means for your data in both cases.
You do not need to sign up, log in, or create an account to use Studlok’s core features — locking apps, running Deep Work or Quiz sessions, and earning scroll time back. Everything that powers that core experience (which apps you've chosen to lock, your session history, your Scroll Bank balance, your streak, your study preferences, and your quiz practice history) is stored locally on your device only, inside a private, sandboxed container Apple provides to the app. We never see it, because it never leaves your device. If you delete Studlok from your device, that local data is deleted with it.
Studlok Pro includes an optional feature that turns your own course notes into a quiz using AI. To use it, you sign in with your Apple or Google account. We use Supabase, our backend and database provider, to handle that sign-in. Depending on which method you choose and what you allow it to share, we typically receive your email address and a unique identifier for your account. We never receive your Apple or Google password.
You can use every other part of Studlok — including locking apps, Deep Work, and the built-in practice quiz packs — without ever signing in.
If you upload a photo or PDF of your course notes, that file is stored in a private, access-controlled Supabase Storage bucket scoped to your account — other users cannot access it. To generate quiz questions from it, the content is sent to Anthropic’s Claude API, a third-party AI service, purely to produce the questions and answers. In accordance with Anthropic’s API data usage policies, content sent through their API is not used to train their models. Anthropic’s own practices are described at anthropic.com/legal/privacy.
The quizzes generated from your materials, and your results on them (for example, how many questions you got right), are stored in our database, tied to your account, so you can come back and retake them later. This data is only used to provide the feature to you — we don’t use it for anything else, and we don’t sell it.
Studlok uses Apple’s Family Controls, Screen Time, and Managed Settings frameworks to let you choose apps to lock and to enforce that lock. By design, these frameworks are built so that the apps you select are represented to Studlok as opaque, privacy-preserving tokens — not as human-readable names, icons, or usage data. Studlok cannot see what you do inside the apps you lock, how long you use them, or any content on your screen. This is enforced by Apple’s operating system, not just a promise we’re making, and is entirely unaffected by whether you sign in.
Studlok schedules local notifications directly on your device (for example, to tell you a session has ended, or to prompt you to take a quiz) using Apple’s on-device notification system. These notifications are not routed through any third-party push notification service, and no notification content is sent anywhere.
Studlok Pro purchases are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store — Studlok never receives or stores your payment card details. We use RevenueCat to manage subscription status and entitlements. RevenueCat receives a randomly generated identifier for your installation and your purchase/subscription status from Apple; it does not receive your name, email, or payment details from us. RevenueCat’s own privacy practices are described at revenuecat.com/privacy.
Studlok does not currently integrate any analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. We do not sell your data.
If you never sign in, this section doesn’t apply to you — see Section 1. If you do sign in, we retain your account, uploaded course materials, and generated quizzes for as long as your account is active, so the feature keeps working the way you’d expect. To request deletion of your account and any associated data stored on our servers, contact us at lennywachira01@gmail.com and we’ll process the request.
Studlok does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. The account sign-in and upload features described above are opt-in and intended for users old enough to agree to our Terms of Use on their own or with a parent or guardian’s permission. If you believe a child has provided us information in some other way, contact us at lennywachira01@gmail.com and we will address it.
If how Studlok handles data changes further, we’ll update this page and change the “Last updated” date above.
